I have a bunch of ideas in my head about what to write about….but for some reason I can’t figure out where to start. This is the problem I have with blogging; or journaling as I like to refer to it. Blogging to me seems overwhelming and there are too many ideas/perceptions about what blogs should be. So to make it seem fun and stress-free I’m referring to my blog as my journal. I journal every night anyway so I’m taking the same mentality that I do with my physical journal and applying it to my online journal.
As the momentum builds up to the official launch of DaniLise Photo (which isn’t going to be anything special by the way. I’ll probably just post something on Facebook and Instagram and be done with it, so don’t expect anything spectacular haha!) there were a few things that I wrote down on my to-do list. One of the first things I reminded myself to do was to get organized. As a project manager you would think that all aspects of one’s life are organized but you would be surprised. I was surprised. When it comes to my photography I’m so unorganized, its ridiculous. It was driving me crazy because everytime I’m asked about a trip or a particular photo I can’t find anything! So two weekends ago I took two whole days (yes two whole days!) and sifted through 6,000 photos!
First off, I had no idea I even had that many and I guess you wouldn’t if you had multiple places where you were storing photos. I found this great course on Lynda.com that is specifically on Organizing and Storing Digital Photos and Videos. I added it to my playlist, watched the hour long video and started to panic because I didn’t even know where to start. The hardest part about this task was figuring out ‘my system’. It slowly came to me as I was working through all of the chaos. As I started going through folder after folder I realized that I had been copying and exporting tons of duplicates.
Long story short, I ended up trashing around 2,500 photos because they were either duplicates or photos I deemed as “not print quality.” I’ve got a great system going now so I can easily find what I’m looking for and now I have a whole bunch of photos that I need to post!
I found photos from my trips to Croatia and Alaska that I never really officially shared so I look forward to doing posts about those very soon. I’ve got a cool idea for a photo series too that I will be posting about either this week or next.
Needless to say, getting organized was much needed and now I feel relieved as I keep moving forward to getting my small business up and running!
